Cathepsins in human skin

Abstract:

Cathepsin is a class of intracellular lysosomal proteases and has a close relationship with the fibrosis and tumor development in multiple organs. Recent investigation about cathepsin in dermatology is mainly focused on its role in normal epidermal differentiation, growth of human hair follicles, skin wound repair and skin scarring, as well as the correlation with different chronic inflammatory dermatoses. To study the relationship of cathepsin to the development and metastasis of skin tumors, relevant cell signals and gene regulation have been investigated, and cathepsin-associated gene therapy is under research.
