Update on the mechanism of Chlamydia trachomatis resistance to quinolones

Abstract:

Quinolones are commonly used to treat Chlamydia trachomatis infection in clinic at present. However, the resistance of Chlamydia trachomatis to quinolones has been increasingly reported. It has been shown that the resistance is related to point mutations in the quinolone-resistance-determinning region of DNA gyrase gene and topoisomerase IV subunit genes. These mutations are located most commonly at Ser-83, less frequently at Asp-87. There are also some other mechanisms underlying the resistance. Further studies are needed for the elucidation of exact mechanism of Chlamydia trachomatis resistance to quinolones.
