Recent data have shown that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ��PPAR��-gamma regulates many biological processes in skin, including cell proliferation and differentiation, immune response and inflammatory reactions. Thus, it may serve as a novel target for the treatment of various skin disorders. Clinically, PPARgamma agonists have been used to treat psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, atopic dermatitis, melanoma, hirsutism, vascular tumors and lipodystrophy. Investigations into PPAR agonists may develop new approaches to the treatment of skin disorders.
