An 80-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital for an infiltrative mass measuring 3 cm ×6 cm partly covered with thick crusts on the left wrist. Clinical examination was performed to exclude other related diseases. Samples were obtained from the lesion and subjected to fungal culture, histopathological examination and special stainings. Histopathology demonstrated dermal infiltration with large quantities of lymphocytes, neutrophils and plasma cells, and special stainings showed numerous fungal spores and hyphae. The isolate was identified as Candida krusei by culture and API 20C AUX identification system. The lesion disappeared after 5-month treatment with oral itraconazole.
