Ultraviolet does a great harm to cells as an external factor that causes cell division. Ultraviolet radiation not only changes the immunologic competence of local reactive cells of skin, such as Longerhans' cells, keratinocytes, dendritic cells, but also induces the synthesis and secretion of interleukins, and in turn causes alteration to epidermal microenvironment. The induced cytokines mainly refer to interleukin -1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18 and 20 , which play a significant role in the immunological network of skin.
