Application of antioxidants in the treatment of dermatosis associated with abnormal keratosis

Abstract:

More and more researches have demonstrated that superoxides including oxygen free radicals play an important role in the pathogenesis of many diseases. Recently, some studies have shown that oxygen free radicals could induce abnormal keratinization. So, some antioxidants like superoxide dismutaseSOD have been tried to treat dermatosis associated with abnormal keratosis, such as eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, radiodermatitis, lichen planus, and so on. These findings are attracting extensive attention of dermatologists. The action mechanism of oxygen free radicals and recent advances of antioxidants in the treatment of skin diseases associated with abnormal keratosis are reviewed in this paper.
