Aberrant DNA methylation in inflammatory skin diseases

With the development of techniques for detection of DNA methylation, more and more studies have indicated that aberrant DNA methylation is associated with various nonmalignant tumors. In addition, it has been demonstrated or implied that aberrant DNA methylation is closely related to the pathogenesis of many inflammatory skin diseases, such as psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus, atopic dermatitis, systemic scleroderma, androgenetic alopecia, chronic eczema, pemphigus, etc. However, it is unclear how aberrant DNA methylation patterns play their biological roles in these diseases. Further in-depth studies will provide new clues for investigations into related diseases.
