Methods A retrospective study was performed on 45 patients with erythematosquamous lesions of glans penis who visited dermatology clinics in Cangzhou People's Hospital in Hebei province. Results Among the 45 patients, 20 were diagnosed with psoriasis, 6 with lichen planus, 5 with lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, 1 with granuloma annulare, 8 with candidal balanoposthitis, and 2 with secondary syphilis, while the cause of erythema remained unknown in 3 patients. Conclusions Erythematosquamous lesions of glans penis are liable to be misdiagnosed, and careful systemic examination, together with laboratory and histopathological examination when necessary, is essential for their correct diagnosis.
