As a serious complication of atopic dermatitis, eczema herpeticum can damage vital organs and even threatens life. At present, the pathogenesis of eczema herpeticum is unclear. Recent studies have found that low levels of filaggrin and claudins can lead to dysfunction of skin barrier as well as reduction in interferon and antimicrobial peptides followed by the predominance of T helper type 2 immune response and abnormality in regulatory T cells, which may contribute to the development of eczema herpeticum.
