The abnormal activation of B cells plays an important role in the development of SLE, and B cell-activating factor ��BAFF�� is critical for the abnormal activation of B cells. Belimumab is a human monoclonal antibody which can selectively recognize and block soluble BAFF. The efficacy and safety of belimumab have been confirmed for the treatment of SLE in randomized, double-blind, large-scale clinical trials. As a biological agent with high efficacy, few side effects and high tolerability, belimumab is a promising drug for SLE.
