u Yao*, Xiao Jungang. *Qingdao Huikang Hospital, Qingdao 266000, China Corresponding author: Xiao Jungang, Email: Xjg_1955@126.com ��Abstract�� Interleukin-23 ��IL-23��/IL-17 axis, a recently discovered inflammatory pathway, participates in a variety of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases by causing inflammatory response and abnormal immune response via cytokines such as IL-17 produced by IL-23-induced T helper type 17 ��Th17�� cells. With the development of medical research, there has been a deeper understanding on the roles and action mechanisms of IL-23/IL-17 axis and its related cells and cytokines, such as Th17 cells, IL-23 and IL-17. Moreover, this axis has been found to be involved in more and more autoimmune skin diseases. This paper focuses on the distinct roles of the IL-23/IL-17 axis in four common connective tissue diseases, pemphigus vulgaris and pyoderma gangrenosum, which may provide new ideas for the targeted therapy of these autoimmune dermatoses.
