Molecular genetic mechanisms of drug eruptions

Some severe forms of drug eruptions, such as drug hypersensitivity syndrome ��DHS��, toxic epidermal necrolysis��TEN��, Stevens-Johnson syndrome��SJS��, can cause high mortality. Recently, with the development in molecular genetics and refinement in human leukocyte antigen��HLA�� typing technology, substantial progress has been made in understanding the relationships between HLA types and drug eruptions. Meanwhile, some studies have shown that genetic polymorphisms of drug-metabolizing enzymes and drug-targeted receptors are also involved in the pathogenesis of drug eruptions. These findings will facilitate the research in molecular genetic mechanisms of drug eruptions, and help to search for and establish molecular testing methods for predicting potential genetic susceptibility to drug eruptions in individuals. ��Key words�� Drug eruptions; Molecular biology; Antigens, CD
