Keratinocytic apoptosis plays a critical role in regulating epidermal differentiation and restraining carcinogenesis.Apoptosis might balance proliferation to maintain epidermal thickness,contribute to stratum corneum formation and eliminate premalignant cells.Apart from the normal developmental program, keratinocytic apoptosis can be triggered by UV light and other stimuli.Dysfunction of apoptosis occurs in some skin diseases.The dysregulation of keratinocytic apoptosis may be related to the pathogenesis of some skin diseases.
