Allergen-specific immunotherapy(SIT)is the only immunomodulatory treatment that may alter the natural course of allergic diseases.Proposed mechanisms include modulation of antigen presenting cells functions,induction of allergen-specific regulatory T cells,and induction of immunoglobulin class switching from IgE to IgA,IgGl,and IgG4.The conventional allergen-SIT is applied with natural allergen extracts,while many new strategies have recently been adopted,including recombinant allergens,epitope-containing peptide approaches,DNA vaccination,and so on.Several clinical trials suggested that allergen-SIT might also present an amactive therapeutic option for a subgroup of patients with atopic dermatitis.
