Effects of retinoic acid on T lymphocytes

Department of Dermatology, Changhai Hospital, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai 200433, China

Department of Dermatology, Changhai Hospital, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai 200433, China

Abstract:

Retinoid acids are widely used in the treatment of various skin diseases, and their indications are continuously increasing. In recent years, more and more evidence has shown that retinoids have immunoregulation effect. First of all, they are closely linked with skin immunity; secondly, they exhibit evident and definite effects on the proliferation, apoptosis and chemotaxis of T lymphocytes, as well as the polarization of Th1/Th2 cells. However, the exact mechanism involved in the pharmacological role of retinoic acids, including protein regulation, cytokine secretion and signal transduction, is not clearly known yet.
