Regulatory T cells and pemphigus

Pemphigus is a kind of autoimmune disease caused by complicated factors. The immune function is in an abnormally high status in patients with pemphigus. As shown by in vitro and in vivo studies, there is disorder of cellular and humoral immunity in the pathogenesis of pemphigus, and the decrease of regulatory T (Tr) cells may play a role in this immune disorder. Furthermore, the forkhead/winged helix transcription factor (Foxp3) seems to be able to modulate the development and function of Tr cells. The investigation into Tr cell classification, generation and function, as well as the possible pathways involved in their functions in pemphigus, will help to elucidate the pathogenesis of pemphigus and seek effective approaches directed to the treatment of this disease.
