Abstract:

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease. The family of Toll-like receptors initiates immune response after recognition of pathogen-associated molecular patterns. Toll-like receptor 9 recognizes CpG motifs in microbial DNA. Then through the signal transfer,B lymphocytes and dendritic cells are activated, meanwhile different kinds of cytokines appear. At last, autoantibodies are produced and the immune network turns to be unbalanced. Evidences are accumulated that Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR 9) might play an important role in the initiation and progress of systemic lupus erythematosus. This review will summarize the latest advances in research on the role of TLR9 in systemic lupus erythematosus.
