Dendritic Cells in Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS

Dendritic cells (DCs) are considered to be the most potent professional antigen-presenting cells in vivo,and their antigen-presenting ability is 10 to 100 times that of macrophages. DCs can efficiently activate T and B lymphocytes,and build an organic connection between the innate and adaptive immunity. Numbers of researches have revealed that DCs play an important role in anticancer and anti-infection effect, graft rejection reaction, and autoimmune diseases. Recently,DCs have been reported to be involved in venereal diseases,i.e. AIDS,syphilis,condyloma acuminatum and genital herpes,etc. This review summarizes recent progress on DC differentiation,immunological activities, and research progress in common venereal diseases.
