Mechanism of Immune Privilege of Anagen Hair Follicle in Alopecia Areata

Abstract:

Recently,a series of experiments have demonstrated that anagen hair follicle is one of the immune privilege organs.A hypothesis is proposed that the immune privilege collapse of hair follicle results in the occurrence of alopecia areata. Some inflammatory factors play a vital role in the collapse and restoration of immune privilege.Melanocyte-associated peptides may function as autoantigens in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata. This review describes the progress about this hypothesis.
