Molecular Basis of Herpes Simplex Virus Latent Infection

Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical Colloge, Nanjing 210042, China

Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical Colloge, Nanjing 210042, China

Abstract:

The survival strategy of herpes simplex virus centers on developing latent infection and periodic reactivation. Despite being the subject of recent researches, the exact mechanisms underlying the latency and reactivation have been proven remarkably difficult to dissect at a molecular level. The focus of the researches is mainly on the latency associated transcripts, immediate early genes, virion protein 16, histone modifications and CD8+ cells in individuals infected by HSV. The further research will help to seek and find new methods or drugs preventing and treating HSV infection.
