Abstract:

Stat 3 is an important nuclear transcription factor participating in cell proliferation, survival, transformation, migration and other biological processes. It plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of some skin diseases characterized by epidermal hyperproliferation and/or dysdifferentiation, such as psoriasis and skin cancers. The blocking of its function with the introduction of specific reverse oligonucleotide, decoy oligonucleotide or dominant-negative protein into the targeted cells, could inhibit the proliferation and promote the apoptosis of the cells. This article reviews the relation between Stat 3 and the above-mentioned diseases,as well as the role and activation of Stat 3 in the pathogenesis of these diseases.
