Abstract:

Chronic exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation may result in morphological and pathological changes of the skin, which is known as photoaging. And wrinkles are one of the distinctive traits of photoaging. The wrinkles in photoaging are characterized as coarse, irreducible deep furrows, and the presence of special histopathologic variations including the abnormal epidermis, destruction of dermoepidermal junction, atrophy of collagen and accumulation of elastotic tissue. To reveal the role of photoaging in the formation of wrinkles, the alterations of dermal pathology and basement membrane zone in the wrinkles related to photoaging are reviewed in the present article.
