Abstract:

Nicotinamide, an antioxidant, can efficiently protect cells and cell membrane from damage by free radicals and scavenge super-oxide radical(O2-) participating in inflammatory process. We review topical application of nicotinamide in some skin diseases and its mechanism of action, including anti-inflammatory properties, improvements in the barrier of stratum corneum and in aging facial skin appearance, moisturizing effects, reduction of pigmentation, prevention of photoimmunosuppression and photocarcinogenesis. The current research hints topical nicotinamide product has a broad application foreground in dermatological field and is worthy of exploitation.
