Aspartyl Proteinases Secreted by Candida albicans

Department of Dermatology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, Guangzhou 510632, China

Department of Dermatology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, Guangzhou 510632, China

Abstract:

Candidiasis is a common mycosis, most of which is caused by the opportunistic fungal pathogen, Candida albicans. Secreted aspartyl proteinase is one of the important virulence factors of Candida albicans. Now we summarize the biochemical characteristics of the proteinase, the expression and regulation of its encoding genes and the interaction between Candida albicans and the host, in order to help better understand the pathogenic mechanism of Candida albicans and develop a new treatment for candidiasis.
