Toll-like Receptors and Anti-infective Immunity in Skin

Department of Dermatology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing 210029, China

Department of Dermatology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing 210029, China

Abstract:

Toll-like receptors(TLRs) are a kind of innate immunity receptor and belong to an archaic and highly conservative receptor family. They express widely in insects, vertebrates and plant cells. They are crucial participants in the innate immune responses, and are closely related to immunologic tolerance, specific anti-infective immunity and some other diseases. This article reviews the mechanisms of the recognition of and defense against some conventional bacteria, viruses and fungi by Toll-like receptors. The understanding of Toll-like receptors and TLR signaling system will lay a broad way to prevent and treat various infectious dermatoses.
