Treatment of Skin Hemangiomas with Lasers

Skin hemangiomas are the most common benign cutaneous tumor of infancy. Early therapy has been recommended for proliferating hemangiomas. The main purpose of the treatment for hemangiomas is to inhibit their proliferation and to induce their regression. Hemangiomas are still difficult to manage. Recently, various lasers have been developed based on the absorption peaks for oxyhemoglobin. This review discusses and evaluates various vascular-specific lasers, including flash lamp pumped pulsed dye laser, frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser(532nm), Nd:YAG laser(1064nm)and photodynamic therapy in the management of skin hemangiomas.
