p14ARF and cutaneous malignancies
P14ARF is a newly discovered tumor-suppressor gene that regulates cell cycle through three independent pathways, i.e., p53, Rb and mitogen-activated protein kinase ��MAPK��. It has been revealed that the expression of p14ARF is downregulated in many malignant tumors including cutaneous malignancies. p14ARF may be inactivated by gene methylation, deletion and mutation, of which, methylation is the most common. At present, scientists are attempting to use p14ARF as a target to treat malignant tumors and have made initial progress.
