Isotopic response is defined as the occurrence of a new skin disorder at the site of another healed and unrelated dermatosis. Although isotopic response is rare in clinic, there has been increasing reports on isotopic response following herpes zoster in recent years. More and more skin disorders have been involved in the phenomenon, including chronic urticaria, lichen planus, granuloma annulare, prurigo nodularis, psoriasis, and so on. The mechanism of isotopic response remains unanswered, and is considered to be associated with the alteration of local immune status in skin by infection with varicella-zoster virus.
