Application of some botanicals in the protection against and treatment of skin photoaging

Abstract:

Skin photoaging can not only affect individual appearance, but also cause various skin diseases and tumors. It is characterized by clinical, histological and molecular biological changes. Numerous studies have shown that botanicals such as ginseng, green tea and pomegranate have free radical scavenging activity as well as some protective effects against ultraviolet radiation, allergy, oxidation stress and tumors. A promising prospect of botanicals is expected in the prevention and treatment of skin photoaging for their various biological activity, ready acquisition and slight side effects. The authors review recent advances in action mechanisms and therapeutic effects of different botanicals in the prevention and treatment of skin photoaging.
