Tight junctions ��TJs��, a very complex structure forming cell?۲cell junctions, exist in various types of cells and tissues. In recent years, more and more close attentions have been paid to the expression of TJ proteins in mammalian epidermis. TJ proteins consist of a great number of protein families that exhibit different expression and localization patterns in epidermis. Under physiological conditions, TJ proteins possess many functions such as tight connection, barrier function and separating function. In addition, abnormal localization and expression of TJ proteins are also involved in the pathogenesis of several skin disorders such as psoriasis, ichthyosis, lichen planus and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.
