Blastomycosis-like pyoderma treated with antibiotics and acitretin: a case report

A 23-year-old male patient presented with an infiltrative, proliferative plaque on the dorsal right foot for more than 2 years. Histopathology of lesions showed pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia and mixed inflammatory infiltrate of the dermis. Staphylococcus epidermidis was isolated from a biopsy specimen. Neither mycological tests nor mycobacteria culture was positive. A diagnosis of blastomycosis-like pyoderma was made according to the above findings. The patient failed to respond to conventional antibiotic treatment or cryotherapy, but was cured after 5-month combination treatment with antibiotics and acitretin. No recurrence was observed in the following 3-month follow-up.
