Immunologic advances of atopic dermatitis |

Abstract:
Atopic dermatitis ��AD�� is a pruritic inflammatory skin disease that typically occurs in early childhood. AD follows a chronic and relapsing course, and is considered to be the initial clinical manifestation of an atopic state. Two forms of AD have been delineated: extrinsic and intrinsic forms. Both forms are characterized by associated eosinophilia. Acquired immunity involves a complex series of interactions between resident and infiltrating cells, and is mediated by a complex network of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Defects in innate immunity may contribute to the propensity for microbe colonization. |
