Various lymphocytic subpopulations, especially T lymphocytes, are involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune dermatosis, hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation ��HSCT�� has been developed as a novel treatment modality for refractory and severe autoimmune dermatosis. Since the mid-1990s, HSCT has been used in more than 1000 patients with severe autoimmune diseases worldwide, including systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Up to now, it has been evidenced that HSCT is feasible and effectual. Prospective multi-centre, randomized, controlled phase �� trials and long-term follow-up have been carried out to compare the safety and efficacy of HSCT versus conventional therapy.
